Open to New Heights’ Rising 5th - 8th Graders
The New Heights Summer Academy is a 4-week comprehensive athletic and enrichment program for rising New Heights 5th - 8th grade student-athletes. Summer Academy participants will engage in academic enrichment, social-emotional development and basketball programming.
What are the goals of Summer Academy?
Provide a fun and supportive space where students participate in activities that develop their academic, athletic, communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
Engage in interactive activities that will provide opportunities for students to improve their critical thinking, literacy and S.T.E.M. skills, spark new interests and reduce the typical summer slide.
Improve student-athletes’ basketball IQ development and skills.

$250 for all New Heights members
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The registration deadline is June 20, 2023. All rising 5th - 8th grade New Heights student-athletes are expected to attend.
Participants are expected to attend all days of Summer Academy.

ELA Course: Sports and Social Justice - This course will explore the ways sports and social justice interact and overlap. How do athletes use their voices to impact change? What social issues do you care about and what can you do?

Classroom Activities (STEM or ELA)
*Program sessions are 55 minutes
STEM Course: Technology and Coding - Technology and programming are creative processes that can transform ideas into reality. Students will learn basic concepts of coding and other technologies by designing and developing web and video content.
11:15 PM – 12:10 PM
Elective/Guest Speaker or Lunch
Elective: Health and Wellness - Overall physical and mental health is an essential part of becoming a successful student-athlete. In this course, we will practice mindfulness and yoga to be our best selves.
12:15 PM – 1:10 PM
Elective/Guest Speaker or Lunch
Guest speakers from the local community will discuss various topics related to our course offerings and allow students to explore various career opportunities.
